On September 15, 1998 America Links Up kicked off National Kids Online Week with a National Town Hall meeting in Washington, DC. National Town Hall Meeting: September 15, 1998, 1 - 3 pm Eastern Time. The discussion included why the Internet is important to our children's future, the pitfalls that parents and teachers should be aware of, and how adults can keep children safe when they are online. Participants in this discussion included industry leaders, government experts, children's advocates, teachers, librarians, parents and kids.

Education Forum Broadcast on CNN: 4:00 to 5:30 pm Eastern Time The National Town Hall was followed up with a televised educational forum that will air nationwide on local cable stations and be distributed to sponsoring education and parents groups. In addition to the National Town Hall kickoff event, there are several hundred regional teach-in events planned in schools, libraries, community centers, and other locations across the United States during September 1998 and beyond.
